It was a cold morning heading out to Lake Saguaro for the AZRATPack March Breakfast. At Mt Ord the snowflake was blinking on my dash, it was 36 degrees. The BUSH Hiway is always a beautiful ride. With fewer cars on the road it was a great chance to take in the scenery.

Culinary Dropout/The Yard, Phoenix, AZ
This month’s dinner meeting saw us return to the site of where the AZRATPack was born and our first dealer sponsor. The club was formed in 2003 at Phoenix International Motorsports, formerly Dirt & Street as part of the R.A.T. Pack initiative from Triumph to start a community in the style of Harley Owners Group (HOG). PIM was later sold to the Superstore group and became Triumph Superstore who continued to sponsor the club.

Met up with Todd in Arrowhead as we learned on the last ride that we both live near each other. I asked Todd to lead to Ahwatukee as I am still getting use to the Garmin. We went a different route than when I originally scouted the restaurant the previous month. As it turns out heading down the 101 W to 10 E to get to the 202 was a much quicker route.

GO AZ Motorcycles Scottsdale
It’s been over a year since I’ve been on the road with the RatPack. It felt great to see old friends and new faces on our first ride of 2022! We welcomed new board members, Sebastian and Dean, and missed our fearless leader, Victor, as he couldn’t make this ride.
The ride started at GO AZ Motorcycles in Scottsdale, which as always, showed massive support for the Club. I led the rider’s meeting, and it was great to see all the eager faces ready to brave a somewhat chilly morning. With 20 plus bikes in attendance, I led the way out of the dealership around 9:45 am. Rodney and Stoops ran ahead of the group to set up some drone shots at the dam, and Dean, on his glorious Gold Wing, was the ride sweep. We didn’t know it then, but that Gold Wing, with its extremely comfortable passenger seat, would star later in the ride.

Since 2016, we have given out awards annually, except in 2020 for obvious reasons, to participants in the rides that we partner with GO AZ Motorcycles. It is with great pleasure that we get back to a little normalcy and announce our awards recipients for 2021.

Though full details are being worked out, Ride Chair, Rodney Chew has announced that the Shady Dell has been named as the official hotel of the SO AZ Tour 2022. We are announcing it now because this hotel sells out well in advance and would like it to be full of people attending our ride. The Shady Dell is a truly unique destination. Here’s more on the Shady Dell:
The Shady Dell Vintage Trailer Court’s long and epic journey began in 1927 as a place to provide trailer and camping spaces to weary travelers along the famous Highway 80, which stretched from Savannah, Georgia to San Diego, California.
