FREE SOPAPILLAS!

After 13 months off my Tiger, I decided to take the short 5-mile ride to Little Anita’s New Mexican Foods in Chandler.  10 members of the Rat Pack attended dinner for a promising authentic New Mexican style dinner.  Stuffed full on New Mexican cuisine and good conversation, the waitress then brought out 2 unexpected plates of Sopapillas for our group.  All in all, the night was a good one, and I hope to meet with more members in the future.

We returned again this year to Phil’s Filling Station in Fountain Hills as it’s an great old AZRATPack favorite, a good place to eat & plenty of parking for the group. As I arrived at what I thought was early in order to get the back room for the group, turns out I was LATE again. A group of Ratpack members were already there enjoying their coffee out front on the patio. Since it was a beautiful morning with good temperatures we decided to stay on the Patio. One of the ironic topics for discussion was how we realized that most of our wives will not get up early to join us for these breakfast meet ups. Who knows maybe that will change going forward! The staff was great and we got our delicious meals in no time, plus one can always appreciate the separate checks.

It also happened to be the day of the 2023 Annular eclipse. Looking at the sun in the parking lot was JUST TOO BRIGHT without special glass. Hector and his wife had the simple special glasses that would allow you to look. It was an interesting experience. Fortunately there were no damaged eyes or cell phones.

As always good food & conversation was had by all with a great start to a weekend, even with all that testosterone !!

December Club Breakfast Recap

Matt’s Big Breakfast – Phoenix, AZ

I had all the intentions of riding to breakfast this morning, just before I was to leave I took the dogs to the back yard for a quick stretch, that was when I noticed the frost on the grass. I knew the streets were safe to ride. I just did not want to start looking for the additional layer and winter gloves needed to make the trek. So off I went on my 4 wheel beast.

November Club Breakfast Recap

Phil’s Filling Station – Fountain Hills, AZ

The November breakfast ride to Fountain Hills started out as a very brisk ride at about 48 degrees when I pulled out of the garage.

The extra layers added warmth to me & the heated seat warming my butt made for a comfortable ride east into the rising sun. Due to a few road closures the 101 was a bit busy for a Saturday morning and of course the few drivers that feeling the need for speed.

September Club Breakfast Recap

Tortilla Flat, AZ

The trip to breakfast started early for me as I felt like I was riding to New Mexico from my West Valley home in Buckeye. The good news was that it was a nice and clear morning with fairly moderate temperatures. Favorable conditions for my 80 mile jaunt to Tortilla Flat!

It had been quite a while since I last made the trip. In the earlier days of the club, we did an annual trip up there on New Year’s Day. Unpredictable weather eventually put a damper on that tradition. In more recent years, we’ve scheduled mid-summer breakfast meetups there, but it’s been a while.

August Club Breakfast Recap

Mamma’s Kitchen Café – Humbolt, AZ

The thought when selecting Mamma’s Kitchen in Dewey was that the temperature would make for a nice cool ride out then smoking hot back into town.  However, this monthly breakfast was set to be a bit different than usual due to this Monsoon season being more productive than the past few years. As the days leading up to this breakfast produced quite a bit of rain & flooding for many of us throughout Maricopa County.

July Club Breakfast Recap

First Watch Carefree – Scottsdale, AZ

The monthly Breakfast meeting was beginning to grow even before the event began as we had over 20 pre-registered participants via AZRATPACK website!

Friendly reminder to pre-register via the website as it lets us know how many people are planning to attend an event. This allows us the time to contact the Restaurant in advance to let them know that a large group will be descending upon them for breakfast on Saturday so they can prepare the appropriate staff.

June Club Breakfast Recap

Hassayampa BBQ – Wickenburg, AZ

This breakfast in June was full of surprises for me as I was not sure if members would be willing to ride on what was an Extreme Heat Warning weekend here in Arizona. A few days before Saturday I checked registrations and we had 3, me being one of them. I called the restaurant any way & in my optimistic view I let them know that a group of about 10 people would be showing up for breakfast on Saturday morning. Also, to request that we each have our own separate check rather than one for the table and they said no problem.  The other inquiry was to ensure they offered more than just the Breakfast burrito that was listed on their website and I was assured they had a full breakfast menu.

May Club Breakfast Recap

Jim’s Burgers & Eggs – Surprise, AZ

After a late night out with a few drinks, it was a difficult task to roll out of bed this morning to head over to Surprise to Jim’s Burgers & Eggs. Normally, I probably would have slept in, but since the chair of this event, Dean is off to the SCMA gathering in Rocky Point with a few others, I stepped up to be the point person for this morning’s breakfast. So, I needed to be there!
