Arizona’s Best Roads According To The AMA

There is a lot of useful information on the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) website.  Today, we’re going to take a look at a page that is useful for us in Arizona and anyone planning to take a road trip out of state.
Visit http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/For-Members/AMA-Great-Roads-Database.  Just choose a state and you’ll be able to see the AMA’s database of great roads in that state.  This is a nice way to plan a trip somewhere.  You can also take it as a challenge to ride all of the roads on the list in a given state.  Let’s take a look at the roads in our home state of Arizona.  I’ll add notes on roads we’ve traveled in the recent past or ones we’ll be hitting this year:

US Hwy 89/89A From Flagstaff; To Prescott We’ve done this one many times and will be riding it this year on our Sedona Ride but starting further south in Wickenburg.
89 From prescott; To skull valley We’ve never done this stretch.  Normally we’ll veer off on 89A towards Jerome.
US 163 From Kayenta, AZ; To Mexican Hat, UT Never on any of our routes.
Snowbowl Road From Baderville (not really a town); To AZ Snowbowl ski area Will be doing this one this year on our Snowbowl Tour in June.
US ROUTE 191 From CLIFTON, AZ; To Springerville AZ The Devil’s Highway.  We’ve done this one in the past and is part of this year’s Sixes Wild Grand Tour in September.
AZ 260 From Eagar; To Hon-Dah We did this one on our last Devi’s Highway Tour.
Historic Route 66 From Kingman; To Seligman An AZRATPack tradition!
AZ 77 From Oracle Junction; To Show Low Part of our past Winkelman Rides.
AZ 67 From Jacob Lake; To Grand Canyon – North Rim Have not done this one before.
88 From Globe; To Apache Junction Never done officially, but a couple of us did this after a 2nd Sunday Breakfast.  Now rumored to getting paved!
88 From Apache Junction; To Tortilla Flat We’ve done this in the past as New Year’s Day Rides and for 2nd Sunday Breakfast.  Now getting repaved!
60 From Apache Junction; To Superior We’ve done this stretch of road plenty!
93 to 89 Alt From Phoenix; To Sedona Ditto!
East Catalina Hwy/Mt. Lemmon From E. Tanque Verde Road; To Mount Lemmon We’ve done this plenty in the past and will be doing it again on our Mount Lemmon Ride the November!
60/77/177 From Globe,Superior,; To Winkleman The old Winkleman loop.  Will be hitting 177 on the Oracle Ride coming up this month.
AZ Route 80 From Benson; To Bisbee We done this in past Southern Arizona Tours.
old U.S. 80 & AZ 238 From Buckeye; To Maricopa We did part of this on last year’s West Valley Tour.
Chandler, Oracle, Globe From Chandler; To Globe We’ve done this in past Mount Lemmon Rides and will probably route this way this year.

By visiting the AMA website, each road has a clickable link that will bring up more details on the roads.  Looks to me that I’ll be hitting the roads that we haven’t hit in the past to research future rides!
