Route 66 Tour/October 2nd Sunday Breakfast Recap

GO AZ Motorcycles, Scottsdale, AZ – October 6-8, 2017

by El Presidente

This year, we rode our annual Route 66 Tour from West to East.  I believe the club has done it this way in the past, but this was the first time for me.  Day 1 took us from our start point at GO AZ Motorcycles Peoria to our destination for the night at the Tropicana in Laughlin with a lunch stop in Kingman at El Palacio.

After a delicious Mexican lunch, we proceeded to Laughlin.  The evening was spent eating, drinking and telling tall stories along with a little gambling too!  We got an early start on Day 2 and rode to breakfast at Topock 66.  This restaurant right off of the Colorado River is a great, scenic stop with great food!  They’re planning on building a hotel there in the near future, we may need to incorporate it into a future ride as a night’s stop!  After breakfast, we took a scenic and twisty ride up to Oatman, where we stopped for a while to play with the donkeys, visit the shops and take a nice mid-morning break.  From there we proceeded through Kingman and on to Hackberry where we stopped for some more shopping and photo ops.  Our next stop was in Seligman where we ate at the famous Snow Cap Drive In, home of the World Famous Dead Chicken Sandwich.  After lunch, we continued east on I-40 to Ash Fork where we were able to ride a short piece of the original Rt 66 and then back on to the freeway for our stop for the night in Williams.  In Williams we were treated to a car show put on by the regional Datsun Owner’s Club before dinner.  The next morning we continued east to Winslow with a brief stop at the Meteor Crater.  As usual, we had a great meal at the Turquoise Room at the La Posada Hotel.  After “standing on the corner”, we all headed back to the Phoenix area.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed running the ride this way.  The scenery was quite different and the timing of our stops worked out very well.  We were off the road by around 3:00 PM every day, so it was friendly towards exploring the towns, getting dinner at a decent hour and then having the opportunity to sample some of the local night life!
