Every January, we hold our monthly meeting and dinner at the George & Dragon Pub to commemorate where the club first started meeting. The George & Dragon was actually the place where all of the monthly meetings were held when the club first formed as a Triumph RAT Pack sponsored by the then nearby Phoenix International Motorsports on 7th Ave that now houses The Yard complex of restaurants.

Our first ride of the year started on a fairly mild morning at GO AZ Motorcycles Peoria. After a brief rider’s meeting we all set off for a nice half day’s ride into Wickenburg then down Vulture Mine Rd to the relaxing roads that take you through the farming towns of Arlington and Buckeye.
Our first 2nd Sunday Breakfast of 2019 was held at Bisbee Breakfast Club in Mesa. For me, it would have been a cold ride on the bike and since I hadn’t ridden in a while, I was going to be extra chilly, so I opted to attend in my car. As previously announced, the time has come to start asking participants in our club to contribute in maintaining the infrastructure of our organization. Though we do seek out sponsors to help pay for targeted aspects of what we do, they do not pay for everything. That burden has fallen on the Board of Directors since forming and on myself previously. For example, GO AZ Motorcycles is currently our Ride Series sponsor and cover all costs related to our rides and ride related awards that we give out at the end of the year, but they do not cover things like the costs related to keeping and maintaining our website.

Wow, it feels good to be at this point of the year! Last Thursday, we closed out the wonderful year that 2018 was for the AZRATPack! 2018 was a year that saw a growth in participation in our rides, breakfasts and monthly dinners. This evening was a celebration of the camaraderie, the interesting places we’ve been to, the way we got to those places and recognition for those of us that were dedicated to seeing and traveling to those places.

Though full details are being worked out, Ride Chair, Rodney Chew has announced that the Shady Dell has been named as the official hotel of the SO AZ Tour 2019. We are announcing it now because this hotel sells out well in advance and would like it to be full of people attending our ride. The Shady Dell is a truly unique destination. This morning was extra chilly here in far out west Buckeye. At 45 degrees, I felt there was no reason to be cold, so I opted for the warm confines of my car. Plus I hadn’t been on a motorcycle since the last breakfast so there was going to need to be a bunch of extra prep this morning like getting the heated vest together and airing up the tires of either the Honda or the Harley. The Ford was a good choice this morning!
I am proud to announce we are among three nominees for this year’s AMA Recreational Road Riding Organizer of the Year award! The special award winners will be announced at the 2018 AMA Championship Banquet on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Hilton Columbus/Polaris in Columbus, Ohio. The event is part of the 2018 AMA Legends & Champions Weekend, Dec. 7-9. Among those recognized at the banquet are top clubs and promoters in competition and recreational riding categories.

This is to let you know that I have thoroughly enjoyed my rides with your group (although limited by my Williams’ location and several health issues over the past 5-years). Whenever I recall riding with you, I get a big bug eatin’ grin on my face and wish I could have participated more. Victor, our fearless leader, has been the focal point, friend and motivator for me, and I will always cherish the thoughtful, well-planned rides and camaraderie he has managed to quietly inspire through the years.
